Frequently Asked Questions

How many guests can MAVERICK take?

Up to nine, in four cabins. Three are king suites, and the fourth is a twin with two single beds and a pullman. Every cabin has its own bathroom.

Is the boat good for families?

Yes. The cabins sit in the two hulls, so parents, kids and grandparents each get some privacy. The swim platforms are low, and the toy locker has gear in kids' sizes. Our family charter page has a sample week.

Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes, Starlink, and it's included. Use it to check in with the office or send home photos, or leave your phone in the cabin all week. Both are popular.

Are meals and drinks included?

Yes. Meals, the open bar, snacks, fuel and the water toys are all part of the charter. The chef plans the menus around your preferences. Your charter broker can confirm the full list of inclusions for your dates.

How much does a charter cost?

All-inclusive weekly rates, fuel and food included, start at $49,500 for 2 to 4 guests and rise $1,000 per extra guest to $54,500 for nine. Christmas and New Year weeks are $65,000 (up to 8 guests, 7-night minimum). Your charter broker can give you a quote for your dates, and the Sunreef 70 charter page has the full rate table.

Where does MAVERICK sail?

Mostly the British Virgin Islands. The usual stops include The Baths on Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, Cane Garden Bay, Sandy Spit, Cooper Island, Norman Island and The Indians. If you have something else in mind, custom itineraries are possible.

Can you pick us up on a different island?

Yes. MAVERICK is based in Tortola, but pickup on other islands can be arranged. Give your flight details to your charter broker and the timing gets worked out from there.

More questions

How do we book or check dates?

Through a yacht charter broker. MAVERICK is booked through brokers worldwide, so your usual firm can check availability and send you a contract. New to chartering? Any charter broker can walk you through how it works.

Is a crewed catamaran private enough for a honeymoon?

Yes. Nobody else books the boat while you're on it. With two guests aboard, the decks, the saloon and the flybridge are all yours, and the crew of three keeps out of the way. Mention the occasion when you inquire. Our honeymoon charter page has more.

What water toys are aboard?

Two Seabobs, a Lift eFoil, water skis for adults and kids, a wakeboard, two paddleboards, two kayaks, towables, noodles and floats, snorkel gear in every size and some light fishing tackle. A 14.5-foot tender runs everyone ashore. All of it is included. Scuba diving is by rendezvous with a local dive operator, and their fee is extra.

Is the crew gratuity included?

No. Gratuity isn't part of the all-inclusive rate, and customs vary by region and by boat. Ask your charter broker what's usual before you travel, so it isn't a guessing game on the last morning.

What is there for kids to do?

A lot. There are snorkel sets in every size, kids' water skis, paddleboards, kayaks, towables and a pile of noodles. Teenagers usually go straight for the Seabobs and the eFoil. At anchor, the bow trampolines are a good place to dry off.

How do nine people sleep aboard?

Three couples take the three king suites, and three more people share the twin cabin, which has two singles and a pullman. The twin works well for kids or teenagers. Each cabin has its own bathroom and shower.

How many crew are aboard?

Three: a captain, a chef and a stew/deckhand. With a full group of nine, that's one crew member for every three guests. The captain handles the sailing and the route, the chef handles the food, and the stew looks after the cabins and the toys.

Planning the trip

Can the chef work around dietary needs?

Yes. Allergies, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, kids who only eat pasta: all of it can be planned for. Send everyone's needs through your charter broker well before the trip, so the chef can provision for them.

Do you go to Anegada?

When the weather allows. Anegada is the flat coral island north of Virgin Gorda, and it's a favorite stop for the beaches and the lobster. The reef around it means the crossing is a call made on the day. Mention it to your broker if it's on your list.

How do we get to the BVI?

Most people fly into Beef Island (EIS) on Tortola, usually through San Juan or on American's nonstop from Miami. The other option is flying into St Thomas (STT) and taking the ferry to Tortola. The ferries only run in daylight, so watch your landing time.

What should we pack?

Less than you think. Bring soft bags, because hard suitcases don't stow, plus a few swimsuits, a light layer for the evenings, a hat, reef-safe sunscreen and your passport. Snorkel gear is already aboard.

When is the best time of year?

Mid-December through April is the main season, with steady trade winds and the least rain. Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 to November 30, and it's busiest from mid-August to mid-October.

Where can we see more photos?

The Photos page has galleries of the boat, the islands and the food.
